APWAPS co-hosting workshop on action for SDGs and WPS resolutions
Next week in Seoul, Republic of Korea, APWAPS will cooperate with the Korea International Cooperation Agency to host 2-day workshop. This joint workshop will take stock of the critically important processes for women’s rights in the context of sustainable development and women, peace and security that culminated in 2015. It will provide an opportunity to examine the new commitments emerging from the High-Level Review on UNSCR 1325 and the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Over 30 participants from civil society and KOICA staff will come together for participatory discussions to explore strategies and actions to promote the effective implementation in the Asia Pacific region of the 2030 Agenda (particularly Goals 5 and 16) and outcomes of the High-Level Review on UNSCR 1325 (HLR 1325). The program will also include an Open Session to engage with a broader group of stakeholders in the Republic of Korea to raise awareness of the women, peace and security agenda. Through this joint workshop, we expect to strengthen APWAPS’ contribution to the implementation of international commitments to gender equality and local women’s peace and security in the Asia-Pacific region. Moreover, this event is also to facilitate the Korea’s implementation of its commitments under the 2030 Agenda and HLR in a way that makes a meaningful difference to the peace and security experienced by women in conflict-affected communities.
