Related activities on women, peace and security | Saathi was establisihed in 1992 and works in the field of violence against women and children. It works nationally and in some instances regionally and globally with other working partners. Its work on women peace and security started from the time when the armed conflict started in Nepal. During the conflict time it supported survivors of violence through shelter support which also included legal, counselling. medical and training services. It also advocated for women’s rights and their access to justice.
Saathi was one of the first organisation that started work on UNSCR 1325 in Nepal using it as a tool for effective advocacy for addressing concerns of conflict affected women. It raised awareness on UNSCR 1325 since 2004 amongst parliamentarians, media, human rights activists and concerned government entities. It conducted training for journalists in all five development region of the country. It also conducted research on gender based violence including sexual violence in conflict and post conflict period. Saatchi’s advocacy with the Government led to the development of the National Action Plan on UNSCR 1325 and 1820 in Nepal in February 2011 being the first country in South Asia and second in Asia to develop the NAP. Saathi was the key collaborator with the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction (MoPR) in the entire development process. Saathi is presently involved in the implementation, localisation and monitoring of the plan. It took out the first year monitoring report of the NAP with MoPR and is presently working on the mid term monitoring report. Saathi has formed a consortium of NGOs working on WPS issues called “1325 Action Group” with the aim of conducting civil society advocacy and monitoring as well as sharing experiences nationally and globally. |
