||We, at NEN, articulate the multiple impacts and disadvantages women face in conflict and post conflict areas. The gendered impact of ‘armed conflict’ in the north east region remains at the periphery of our discourses and interventions in the society. It is imperative for us to provide critical analysis of gender bias /deficit in such processes and thus, uphold women’s human rights in the region. With this endeavour, we undertake the following strategies- Systematically document women’s human rights violations in conflicted affected areas or such situations caused by conflict through studies and fact findings; Capacity building of women’s organisations, activities, government stakeholders, human rights defenders, lawyers and other critical partners towards applying normative human rights standards to claim rights in domestic spheres through feminists trainings and interactive workshops; Initiate activism and advocacy towards policy change at local and national levels using due diligence principles; Monitoring government’s policies & programmes by using international treaty body reporting mechanisms such as the CEDAW , UNSRVAW, UNSCR , CSW, BPFA and ICESCR; Advocacy with different stakeholders for implementation of CEDAW concluding observations; Promote and address women’s peace initiatives towards conflict prevention and sustainable peace building at multiple levels; Alliance building with women’s human rights groups and information dissemination through publications in local language remain at the heart of NEN’s work around women , peace and conflict.
